NIGHTWISH studio update

10 Nov 2006, 04:15 PM | private machine | 16 comments

Tuomas from Nightwish looking all prettyTuomas Holopainen, leader of Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish, has posted an update in the band's diary on their official website. A few excerpts follow:

Quote
The very next day we tested another vocalist canditate [sic]. She came to the studio to sing some new songs. Sounded astonishingly good! She sang one of the new slower songs with such soul it made the songwriter bite his lip instead of producing.

...

When I got back home I checked through all the new lyrics. 13 ready so far, 2 still under way. I felt content to realize this is the best I can do. 3 lines of the lyrics were cencored [sic], though. I received a very polite note from London saying that these lines would be far too unappropriate [sic] to sing, since we are not doing another "Exorcist"-sequel here... I got the point and rewrote the lines with a bleeding heart. The artist was again misunderstood. Or actually he was understood all too well this time.

Check out the whole diary entry at the official site.

EDENBRIDGE sign to Napalm Records

05 Nov 2006, 12:10 PM | private machine | 0 comments

EdenbridgeAustrian symphonic metal band Edenbridge have signed to Napalm Records, according to Blabbermouth.net. The band had this to say about the deal.

Quote
Napalm Records have been doing a brilliant job for their bands. Since last year they have been making a great effort to sign us and therefore we are extremely happy to work together with them for the next years to bring Edenbridge to the next level together. It's nice to see again that a label has one hundred percent trust and therefore invests into a band. Thank you also to all the other labels who were making offers to the band and showed their big interest, and to Massacre Records for the cooperation in the past years.

Napalm will release the band's fifth album, 'The Grand Design', on 30 January 2007 in the United States. The album was released in Europe on 19 May this year by Massacre Records. A new album is planned for release in 2008.

EVANESCENCE guitarist interviewed

05 Nov 2006, 03:38 AM | private machine | 8 comments

Evanescence guitarist Terry BalsamoTerry Balsamo, guitarist of American rock band Evanescence, has been interviewed by Ultimate-Guitar.com. In it, he talks about recovering from the stroke he suffered recently and how it has affected his guitar playing, among other things.

Quote
When you picked up the guitar again, was it like having to start from scratch?

It definitely wasn't like from scratch. It's kind of like the knowledge is there. My mind would tell my hand what it should do, but it wouldn't do it. The knowledge was still there, it's just training my hand to do what it's supposed to do.

AFTER FOREVER sign to Nuclear Blast

31 Oct 2006, 04:29 PM | private machine | 2 comments

After ForeverNuclear Blast Records have announced that they have signed Dutch gothic metal band After Forever. The band had been without a label after leaving Transmission Records earlier this year.

Quote
Commented guitarist Sander Gommans about the signing: "After Forever has grown a lot the past years. We've done more and more shows and festivals worldwide and also experienced a lot of improvement musically. I feel that After Forever is stronger than ever, as a group but also musically. this is the right time to choose for a label that can help us realising our dreams! Because the core of the After Forever songs is metal-orientated, it's a very natural decision for us to choose Nuclear Blast!"

BESEECH disband

20 Oct 2006, 03:12 AM | private machine | 0 comments

BeseechBeseech have announced that they are disbanding. An official statement on their website reveals that:

Quote
However we cannot hide from the fact that we have grown apart from each other as persons and we have different views of how we want Beseech to work as a band. This has taken away all the inspiration to continue and we see this as the only solution in the end. This way we can all part as friends and wish each other good luck with new endeavors that will follow.

NIGHTWISH studio diary

17 Oct 2006, 06:51 PM | private machine | 4 comments

Jukka from Finnish symphonic metal band NightwishNightwish drummer Jukka Nevalainen has posted the band's first diary entry on recording the new album. As you would expect, the diary entry recounts the recording of the drums for the new album, which will be released some time next year.

Quote
On Tuesday morning we woke up with a smile in our faces knowing that there were only two more songs to be recorded and after that... PARTY! We started by recording a calm ballad in which we needed to focus on getting the beat running smoothly because tempo is really slow. When playing beat on a slow tempo, the beat easily sounds unsteady which makes the whole song to sound unsteady. We succeeded really well, and after a little break it was time to take over the last song. It was a song which in Nightwish-scale is extremely fast and goes on the very limits of player's abilities. After being sure this song was well recorded it was time to party. First we took a fast trip to the nearest liquer store and then went to sauna. In the early hours we again recorded some great stuff which might be released someday, somehow.

Excited yet?
