October 2006 Featured Band: Collide
Los Angeles-based band Collide is a perfect example of a musical yin and yang. kaRIN provides the warm, sultry vocals and surreal, metaphorical lyrics to Statik's expertly crafted, multi-layered compositions. It's a fantastic concept that's made all the more impressive by how effortlessly they pull it off so that it seems natural.
Collide's music has evolved over the years — much like Collide itself, which is no longer a duo, but a full-fledged band — from the industrial ambient techno of their debut album, 'Beneath the Skin', to their more trip-hop-oriented stylings for their last two studio albums, 'Chasing the Ghost' and 'Some Kind of Strange'.
However, the band remain somewhat of an underground act, although they are well-known and respected by fellow musicians, particularly in the industrial scene. Part of this reason might be due to the band's decision to self-produce their music through their own Noiseplus Music label, which they formed after releasing their first album.
The band have so far released three studio albums, two remix albums and, recently, a live DVD. They are currently working on a fourth studio album.
